7th Asian Conference of Correctional Facilities, Architects and Planners
7th Asian Conference of Correctional Facilities Architects and Planners -2018 was proudly held in Sri Lanka during 12th -16th March, 2018,Hilton Hotel, Colombo. Department of Prisons Sri Lanka in collaboration with ICRC has organized the conference and 85 delegates from 16 countries representatives of the strategic partners and executive officers from Sri Lanka Prisons & other relevant sectors were participated the conference.
Positive measures taken by the countries to achieve progress in the field of rehabilitation were widely discussed and thereby opportunity arose each country to share the knowledge internationally.
Further, it was appraised the action taken to achieve prison reforms in those countries in conformity with International Standards. Also, Sri Lanka was highly appreciated for making prison reforms such as the open prison camp concept and program of relocation of urban prison in more spacious area and to ensure the correction in conformity with international standard. Further, foreign delegates admired the progress of prison service in Sri Lanka and newly constructed Angunakolapelessa New Prison Complex, which they were visited as a part of the conference.
Opening ceremony of the conference was done under the patronage of the Hon. Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs. Mr. D.M.Swaminathan and Secretary to the Ministry, Eng .P.Suresh ,Mrs.Claire Meytraud, Head of the delegation ICRC Sri Lanka and Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr.Nishan Dhanasinghe also graced the occasion.
Mr.Thushara Upuldeniya, Commissioner of Prisons was the Chief Coordinator Sri Lanka of the the 7th ACCFA and Director Engineer Mr. H.M.G.I.D. Bandara, and Senior Superintendents of Prisons, Mr.Chandana Ekanayake and Mr.Malin Liyanage made presentations at the conference representing Sri Lanka.
8th Asian Conference of Connectional Facilities Architects and Planners will be held in Japan in 2019.
