Emil Ranjan Lamahewa Challenging Trophy of the Southern Province Inter Prison Cricket Tournament – 2017 was held at the Bandarawatta Play Ground – Rangama on November 26,2017 under the patronage of the Superintendent of Boossa Prison, Mr.L.P.M.Karunarathne.In the preliminary round, Boossa, Galle, Weeravila, Angunakolapellessa Prisons and Elpitiya and Balapitiya lock ups played for the trophy and out of all prisons, Weeravila Prison cricketers walked away with the Emil Ranjan Lamahewa Challenging Trophy in six overs cricket match. Angunakolapelessa cricketers was the second best in the match.Read more

Yugasana Kavi Viridu Dhaham Deshanawa was held with the collaboration of Boossa Prisoners Welfare Association and Boossa Prison Buddhist Association on November 03, 2017 on open stage of Boossa Prison. Read more

Kethumathi Holiday Resort which was established in 1992 by Prison Officers’s Buddhist Association Ltd was renovated spending about Rs. 70 lakh and buying matching furniture to give resort a modern looks. On October 16,2017 Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr.H.M.N.C.Dhanasinghe opened at auspicious time while playing Pirith by Maha Sangha. Read more

The President, Maithripala Sirisena declared a National Food Production Week aimed at expediting toxin free food production under the theme of “Yali Api Negitimu, Atu Kotu Purawamu”. The Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr.Nishan Dhanasinghe planted a plant and made a speech on the topic of importance of being self sufficient in food production.  All Prison Headquarters staff witnessed this event. It was the Prisoners Welfare Day fell on September 12,2017 when week of several religious, spiritual, educational, sports, health programs, family get together and Sramadana programs have been introduced by the commissioner General of Prisons carried out so as to temper lives of prisoners in better way.
