New year Fair- 2018 organized by the Sewa Vanitha Society of Prison Headquarters representing all prison institutions island wide was held on April 09,2018 in front of Prison Headquarters. New year Fair was opened by the Hon.Advisor to the Sewa Vanitha Society and Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr.Nishan Danasinghe and Hon.Chairman to the Sewa Vanitha Society Mrs.Deepika Subasinghe. At the request of the Superintendent of Mahara Prison, Mr. T.I.Uduwara a leading apparel manufacturer, A.T.G.Group of Companies donated its community services program a multifunctional washing machine on April 5 , 2018  for the use of prison inmates. Read more

Final match of the State Service Football Cup was held on March 29,2018 between Prison Group an Galle Town Hall Group at the Sport Ground – Moragasmulla and Prison Group won the match by 4 - 0. Read more

Parents get together for Trainee Prison Guards in 101th training course was held January 07,2018 at the Angunakolapalessa Prison Training Center under the supervision of Superintendent of Angunakilapalessa Prison, Mr.A.W.S.Dhammika and guidance of the Chief Jailor, Mr.P.Warnakulasuriya. Read more

All Night Pirith Chanting Ceremony and followed by morning arms giving organized by the Buddhist Association of the Prison Department to obtain blessing for His Excellency President, Hon. Prime Minister, the Hon. Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs and his staff, all officers of the Department of Prisons and their families, and prison inmates were held on Saturday the 06th and 07th January 2018. Number of methods and strategies are applied in reaching the mission and vision of the Department of Prisons. Procedure of rehabilitation plays a particular role in the mission. The Department of Prisons improves skills and knowledge of inmates, make good attitudes among them and thereby reintegrate inmates as good citizens through rehabilitation. Read more

Boossa Prison Officers welcome their new year 2018 with Pirith Ceremony that invoke blessing to all Sri Lankans, officers from the Department of Prisons and inmates. Newly built prison hospital was also declared open at the auspicious time. For the first time, a blood donation campaign has been organized and hold on the instructions of Ven.Suriyaweva Gunananda Thero, the Chief Advisor of the Boossa Prisoners Welfare Association at the open stage on January 4, 2018. Christmas Celebration for inmates at Kuruwita Prison was held ceremonially on December 21, 2017 under the patronage of the Rathnapura District Bishop Cletus Chandrasiri Perera and with the participation of Priests from the Bishop House –Madola, Avissawella and the Priest from Ratnapura Cathedral, Rev.
