In line with the prison day celebrations and completion of 112 years of prison service to the nation, a variety of programs island wide were held at the Department of Prisons. Meanwhile, Boossa Prison cleaned its Boossa Kandurupe Road and drainage system under guidance of the Assistant Superintendent of Boossa Prison,Mr. L.P.M.Karunaratne.  Read more

Under the island wide program of home donation to a poor prisoner on centenary celebration of Sri Lanka Prisoners Welfare Association, a home which was built by the Bossa Prison Authority and Bossa Prisoners Welfare Association was donated under the patronage of the Commissioner General  of Prisons, Mr.Nishan Dhanasinghe.  Read more

A workshop on soap production for officers of Industry Division of the Department of Prisons was held under the guidance of the Commissioner of Prisons (Industry and Skill Development) Mr.Emil Ranjan Lamahewage and Director Training, Mr.M.F.Lahir on 30th June 2017 at CRTC.  Read more

Induction Residential Training for officers at the Department of Prisons who were promoted to the Post of Jailor and Rehabilitation Officer Class 11, was conducted from May 15 to June 14, 2017 at the Centre for Research and Training in Correction (CRTC).  Read more

Prisoner’s Welfare Association of Galle Prison was awarded the Sam Wijesinghe Visista Seva medal for its commendable service rendered towards the welfare, rehabilitation, wellbeing and correction of prison inmates, by the President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Hon. Maithripala Sirisena on 13th June 2017 at the BMICH.   Read more

The Cricket teams representing Department of Prisons and Department of Police were qualified for the final match at the State Service cricket tournament of this year. This final match was held at the Mahara Prison ground on 8th  May 2017. The cricket team of Department of Prisons won the trophy by three wickets against strong Police Department’s team.Read more

Under the guidance of Superintendent of Boossa Prison, Mr. L.P.M.Karunarathne, inmates from boossa Prison cultivated two bushels paddy field in extent of about 09 acres with tea, coconut and cinnamon cultivations, managed by the Boossa Prison and belonging to the Department of Prisons and harvested the other day at the Deesi Valley State, Akmimana. Mosque build for Muslim Devotees at Monaragala Prison was declared open by the Honorable State Minister of Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Mr.L.A.M.Hisbulla on May 24,2017. Commissioner of Prisons (Rehabilitation) Mr.Shantha Fernando, Senior Superintendent of Monaragala Police, some Superintendent of Prisons and number of guests participated to the occasion.Read more

Buddhists worldwide celebrate Vesak to mark 03 momentous events in Buddha’s life, his birth, enlightenment, and his death (Parinibbana). In parallel with International Vesak Day, Prison Officers Buddhists Association held a beautiful Vesak Zone from May 10 – 14, 2017 on Baseline Road in front of Prison Headquarters. Read more

Boossa Prison Authority has planned to build a house for a family of an inmate in custody for 3 years. Prison officers have started a building a house for this family with great difficulty in an inmate’s land on the recommendation of the Divisional Secretary – Hikkaduwa. Resource contribution from Boossa Prisoners Welfare Association and Boossa Prison Officers was received in this generous task. Read more


In parallel with international Vesak celebration, a Buddhist films festival for prison inmates was held, according to a concept of Hon. Minister of Media and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Gayantha Karunathilake, at the Galle Prison on May 11, 2017 under the guidance of the Superintendent of Galle Prisons, Mr. Jagath Weerasinghe and the Director – Operation of the National Film Corporation, Mr. Sampath Subasinghe.
