The passing out parade of trainees from the 13th Jailor and Rehabilitation Officer course, together with the 105th Prison Guard course, recruited to fill vacancies at the Department of Prisons, was held on September 19, 2026, at 09:30 AM at the Angunakolapelessa Prison. The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Justice and National Integration, Hon. Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara, and the Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. R. Prasad Hemantha Kumara.
264 trainee officers, comprising 37 male jailors, 04 female jailors, 01 female rehabilitation officer, 197 male prison guards, and 25 female prison guards passed out at the ceremony. During the event, awards were presented by the Minister of Justice and National Integration to officers who demonstrated outstanding performance across both training courses. Officer E.R.R. Avishka Bandara was awarded the Best All-Round Second Class Jailor, Officer E.R. Rasika Sumedha was named the Best All-Round Guard of the 105th Prison Guard Training Course, and Officer H. Kavisha Devindi was awarded the Best All-Round Female Guard. Several other talented male and female officers also received awards.
Cultural performances by apprentice prison officers and musical displays by the Prison Band added color to the occasion.
The event was attended by former Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. K.W.E. Karaliyadda, retired commissioners, Commissioner of Prisons (Operations, Intelligence & Media Spokesman) Mr. S.K. Pallethanna, Commissioner of Prisons (Rehabilitation), Mr. Gajanayake, Commissioner of Prisons (Industries), Mr. S.L. Wijesekera, Senior Superintendent of Prisons, Mr. R. Rajeeva Silva, Mechanical Engineer, Mr. Harischandra, and Director of Training, Mr. Pradeep Wasantha Kumara. A large number of retired Superintendents of Prisons, assistant superintendents of prisons, senior officials of the Department of Prisons, and relatives of the apprentice officers were also present at the occasion.
