With the completion of training course for Trainee Prison Guards recruited to fill vacancies at the
Department of Prisons, passing out ceremony was held at the Angunakolapelessa Prison Ground on
11.05.2025 at around 10.00 a.m. under the patronage of the Commissioner General of Prisons,
Mr.Thushara Upuldeniya.
Total 145 officers, including 111 male and 34 female prison guards, passed out from the training course.
Officers who demonstrated excellence in the training course were awarded by the Commissioner General
of Prisons.
Following officers were awarded with the best sportsman, Prison Guard, J.P.P. Dilshan, the best
sportswoman was M.K.P.P. Gamyamani, the best student in the class was R.D.A.K.S. Amararatne, the
best shooter, B.W.M.T. Anuradha, the best female shooter, U.M. Wijesinghe, and the best solid drill
officer, D.M.K. Hansamal, the best female drill officer, R.R.H. Somathilaka; the best all-round officer,
E.L.G. Edirisinghe; and the best all-round female officer, R.D.A.K.S. Amararatne.
Ceremony had a chance to showcase several cultural performances by Trainee Prison Guards and Prison
Band.
For this special occasion, Commissioner of Prisons (Administration), Mr.B.M.U.G.A.K.Basnayake,
Commissioner of Prisons (Operations and Intelligence),Mr. Gamini Dissanayake, Commissioner of
Prisons (Human Resources), Mr.M.D.D.P.K. Murage, Commissioner of Prisons (Supply and Services),
Mr. Prasad Hemantha, Commissioner of Prisons (Rehabilitation), Mr. Jagath Chandana Weerasinghe,
Commissioner of Prisons (Industry), Mr. S. K.Pallethena, Director Training, Mr. S.L.Wijesekera, Deputy
Director (Planning) Ms. K. Mahathanthila, Prison Legal Officer, Ms. H. N. M. Fernando, Senior officers
of the Department of Prisons, including the Chief Inspector of Police of Angunakolapalassa, Mr.Niroshan
Abeykoon, and relatives of the Trainee Prison Guards participated to the ceremony.
