Mr. Thusara Upuldeniya assumed duty as the new Commissioner General of Prisons at auspicious time on 08.06.2020 at the Department of Prisons. Special invited guests and several senior prison officers participated to the occasion.
In 2001, Mr.Upuldeniya was appointed as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) at the Department of Prisons and he has worked as ASP at Colombo Remand Prison (CRP), Welikada , Bogambara, Galle, Kegalle and Kuruvita Prisons and as an Superintendent of Prisons in CRP, Mahara, and Center for Research and Training in Corrections as well as as an senior Superintendent of Prisons at the Prison Headquarters. Mr.Upuldeniya who got a reputable service through out his two decades career, has promoted to Commissioner of Prisons Intelligence and Security, Operation, Administration and Supply as well.
Mr. Upuldeniya who completed his school studies at the Royal College Polonnaruwa and the Dharmaraja College – Kandy, entered to the University of Kelaniya and earned his first degree in Economics with honors and also did his Master Degree in Human Rights and Democratization in the University of Sydney in Australia. Further, he has done a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies at the University of Peradeniya and Diploma in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Sri Jayawardanapura. In addition, Mr.Upuldeniya has participated a number of training sessions overseas and has vast knowledge and experience on prison field.
