Bakery Training School for Prison Inmates

Hon. State Minister of Justice and Prison Affairs, Attorney at Law, Mr.Anuradha Jayarathna, with the participation of the Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr.Thushara Upuldeniya declared open on 03.02.2024 a modern bakery training school, with the financial assistance of the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC), to improve vocational training skills of rehabilitated inmates at the Open Prison Camp -Pallekele.

This Bakery Production is given to inmates as a training course, and in the future, steps are taken to provide this course as a certificate course for the residents. Bakery items produced this way will be ready for the consumption of inmates as well as sale locally. Superintendent of Prisons (Industries), Mr.Sujeewa Wijesekera, Assistant Superintendent  of Prisons- Pallekele Open Prison Camp, Mr. S.A.S.I.P. Perera, National Project Coordinator of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Ms.Dushanthi Fernando, representatives from UNODC and some prison officials participated to the special occasion.
