With the opening of a new tennis playground at the Angunakolapalassa Prison on 30.11.2024, Inter-Prison Tennis Tournament was held very gracefully under the patronage of the Commissioner General of Prisons. Accordingly, the tournament was held as a day and night tournament and organizing activities was carried out under the leadership of the Angunakolapalassa Superintendent of Prisons, Mr.Nimal Shantha.
About 115 athletes from 15 prisons institutes participated to the tournament and the The Sri Lanka Prisons Emergency Action and Tactical Force won the overall championship, the Colombo Remand Prison team won the second place, and the Kuruwita Prison team won the third place in the tournament held under several age groups.
Men’s championship above 40 years of age was won by Mr. T.W.P.Siriwardena, Class I jailer of Thaldena Open Prison Camp, and women’s championship above 40 years of age was won by Mrs. A.B.S.Pubuduni Amarasinghe, Prison Guard from Kuruwita Prison and Men’s championship above 50 years of age was won by the Kuruvita Superintendent of Prisons, Mr. E.M.S.Mahanama.

Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Matara and Hanbantota Divisions, Mr.Nishantha de Soysa, Commissioner of Prisons (Operation and Intelligence, Mr.Gamini B. Dissanayake, Commissioner of Prisons (Rehabilitation), Mr. Jagath Weerasinghe, Prison Commissioner (Industry), Mr. Senaka Pallethanna, Superintendent of Mahara Prison, Mr. Rajiv Silva, Superintendent of Colombo Remand Prison, Mr.S.R.Galappatti, Prison Sports Association- Tennis Chairman, Assistant Superintendent of Prisons, Mr. Prasad Premathilaka, Tennis Coach, Mr.Indrakumar Gananathan and invitee guests including many senior officials of the Department of Prisons participated to the ceremony.
