Department of Prisons, Successfully Marks the Conclusion of the 4th Inmates Scout Camp.

On the occasion of the centenary of prison scouting which helps with the rehabilitation process of inmates to a great deal, 4^th Inmates  Scout Camp organized by the Rehabilitation Division of the Department of Prisons was held at the Open Prison Camp-Pallekele from 01.04.2023 to 03.04.2023 under the supervision of the Additional Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr.Chandana Ekanayake  and on instructions of the Commissioner General of Prisons Mr.Thushara Upuldeniya.

Hon. Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Mr.President’s Attorney, Dr.Wijayadasa Rajapaksa as the chief guests and Hon.State Minister of Justice and Prison Affairs,  Advocate General, Mr.Anuradha Jayaratne also participated to camp opening ceremony.

Secretary to the Ministry of Justice and Prison Affairs, Mrs.Wasantha Perera, Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr.Thushara Upuldeniya, Additional Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr.Chandana Ekanayake, Commissioner of Prisons (Operations and Intelligence) Mr.T.I. Uduwara, Commissioner of Prisons (Supply &Servicesa and Industries), Mr.K.A.S. Mr.Kodithuvakku, Sri Lanka Scout Association Deputy Chief Commissioner, Mr.M.F.S. Mooheed and Kandy District Scout Commissioner, Mr. Kapila Priyantha, several senior Prison Officials and many dignitaries participated to the event.

In the camp held for three days at the Open Prison Camp- Pallekele in gorgeous ground, Scouts had an opportunity to participate in many activities such as cultural shows, firework displays, scout activities, study tours and community service projects.

It was a distinctive incident that scouts representing all prisons in Sri Lanka joined the camp. Team from the Correctional Center for Young Offenders –Thaldena won the Commissioner General of Prisons Championship for the best scout team who, successfully faced assessment held at the camp. Boossa Inmates Scout Team was the Additional Commissioner General of Prisons Runner-up. Everyone appreciated events presented by scout inmates using their artistic ability to their best.

The conclusion of the ceremony was, successfully held on 03.04.2023 with the participation of the Additional Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr.Chandana Ekanayake at the Open Prison Camp- Pallekele.
