The Hon. State Minister of Prison Reforms & Prisoners’ Rehabilitation, Dr Sudharshani Fernandopulle and other guests who participated to the opening ceremony of newly built tennis ground at the Mahara Prison had an observational tour inside the Mahara Prison as well.
In this tour, Hon. Minister paid special attention to the industrial section of the Mahara Prison where inmates contributed their labour to produce personal protective equipment for health and security sectors during Covid-19 pandemic and praised their worthy effort in this task.
Minister who observed all vocational training courses at the Industrial Section of Mahara Prison, addressed the press telling that she admired the dedication of the Superintendent of Prison and staff at the Mahara Prison.
For this occasion, the Secretary to the Ministry, Ms Geethamani Karunarathna, the Hon. Gampaha District Member of Parliament, Mr Sahan Pradeep Vithana, Hon. Chairman of the Mahara Pradeesiya Saba, Ms Sudeema Chandani, the Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr Thushara Upuldeniya, the Commissioner of Prisons-Industry, Mr Malin Liyanage, the Commissioner of Prisons-Supply, Mr K.A.S. Kodithuwakku, Superintendent of Mahara Prison, Mr Jagath Werasinghe, Assistant Superintendent of Mahara Prison, Mr Jagath Dissanayaka, and Chief Jailor, Mr Subash Upuldeniya participated to the tour.
