788 New officers were recruited to fill vacancies in the post of prison guards at the Department of Prisons. Appointment letters were handed over under the patronage of the State Hon. Minister of Prison Management & Rehabilitation and Gem & Jewelry Mr. Lohan Rathwatte to these officers on 07.09.2021 at the Auditorium of Prison Headquarters.

Due to Covid-19 Pandemic prevailing in the island, handing over of appointment letters, subjected to heath guidelines, and practical training were done symbolically with limited number of newly appointees. Trainee prison guards training in different prisons participated through zoom technology.

On this occasion, Hon. minister expressed that prison officers do a very responsible job and also they must protect the dignity of the job. Further, he mentioned that the his excellency President, and  Hon.  Prime Minster too  have given priority to  the procedure of prison reforms.

Retired Major General, Mr.V.R. de Silva, Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr.Thushara Upuldeniya, Additional Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr.T.I.Uduwara, Commissioner of Prisons (Industries), Mr.Main Liyanage, Commissioner of Prisons (Supply), Mr.K.A.S.Kodithuwakku, Comissiner of Prisons (Finanace), Mr.M.B.M.P.W.H.Rajasinghe, Director  (Engineering), Mr.W.M.P.B.Weerasinghe, Director (Planning), Ms.Suranji Wijewardana and several high rank officers from prison participated to the occasion.
