A Five years plan to implement Prison Reforms under the theme of “A Right Based Correctional System for a Safer Society” was published by The Department of Prisons under the guidance of Commissioner General of Prisons Mr.Thushara Upuldeniya in line with the National Policy framework Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour, Sustainable Development Goals and priorities identified for the State Ministry of Prison Reforms and Prisoner’s Rehabilitation. Nine different goals were identified covering the major areas in the Current prison system; is to be developed.
Prison Reforms Implementation five years Plan (2021-2025) was handed over to his excellency President Gotabaya Rajapaksha, Hon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksha, Hon. Minister of Justice President’s Counsel Mohomed Ali Sabry, Hon State Minister of Prison Reforms & Prisoner’s Rehabilitation Dr.Sudarshini Fernandopulle, Secretary to Ministry of Defence and the Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce to build a secure country, disciplined, virtuous & lawful society Major General (Retd) Kamal Gunarathna, the secretary to MoJ, secretary to SMPRPR and to the Department of National Budget & National Planning.
